Privacy policy

Effective date: Oct 4, 2026.

This policy explains what information SunSocket ("we") collects when you use this website or our emails, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to meet the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA).

What we collect

• When you sign up: your email address and ZIP code (required), and, if you choose, whether you rent or own, whether you live in an HOA, your utility, and whether you want installation help.
• Tags: we note where you signed up (for example, the calculator or the kit tracker) and what you asked about (for example, a product you want to watch, or that you want installation help).
• Calculator estimates: if you ask us to email an estimate, we store a summary of it with your signup.
• Calculator inputs: your browser sends your ZIP code and panel settings to our own server, not to anyone else. Our server looks up the approximate center point of your ZIP code and sends only that location and your panel settings to NREL's PVWatts solar estimate service. NREL never receives your IP address, email or other personal details.
• Email opens and clicks: our emails use our email service's standard open and click tracking, which records whether you open an email and which links you click.
• Saved in your browser: the calculator saves recent production results in your browser's local storage so repeat estimates load faster. This stays on your device and you can clear it in your browser settings.
• Server logs: our hosting provider may keep standard logs such as IP address, browser type and pages requested.

When it's stored

Our hosting provider stores every signup form submission as soon as you send it. Our email service also stores your details right away, marked "unconfirmed", and only starts sending you emails after you click the link in the confirmation email.

How we use it

• To send you the estimate or alerts you asked for, and a monthly update.
• To understand demand by area, such as how many people in a ZIP code want installation help.
• To run and improve the site and our emails.

We don't sell your email address. We give it only to the service providers listed below, and to an installer only if you ask us to connect you.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with these types of third parties:

• Web hosting and form processing (Netlify): hosts the site, receives signup forms and keeps standard server logs.
• Email service (MailerLite): stores your email address, your answers and tags, and sends the emails you asked for.
• Solar data provider (NREL PVWatts): receives only the approximate location of your ZIP code and your panel settings, never your email or IP address.
• An installer, only if you ask: if you ask us to connect you with installation help, we share your email address, ZIP code and the answers you gave with one licensed contractor. We may be paid for that referral, and we'll tell you before we share anything.

These providers process data on our behalf, under their own privacy terms.

Analytics

We don't currently use website analytics. If we add it, we'll use a service that doesn't use cookies or collect personal information, and we'll update this policy first.

Tracking by other companies

On this website, we don't use advertising trackers or social media pixels, and we don't allow other companies to collect personal information about your activity over time or across other websites. Our emails use the open and click tracking described above.

Do Not Track

We don't track you across other websites, so we treat all visitors the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

How long we keep it

• We keep your signup details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
• If you unsubscribe, our email service keeps your email address marked as unsubscribed, so you don't get emailed again by mistake.
• If you ask us to delete your information, we'll delete it from our email service and our signup form records within 45 days and confirm by email.

Your choices

• Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
• To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, email hello@getsunsocket.com.
• The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) does not currently apply to us because of our size. If that changes, we'll update this policy.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also say so on our Updates page.
